Program of Home Renovations for Independent Seniors (HRIS)
The HRIS Program (Programme de logement adapté pour aînés autonomes [LAAA]) is offered to autonomous, low income seniors 65 years or older; whose needs require minor renovations to their residence or housing.
Financial aid
The HRIS program grants financial assistance in the form of varying subsidies, including:
|
3 500 $, when work is carried out by a contractor who holds a suitable licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec; |
|
1 750 $, when work is not carried out by a contractor. The costs considered in this case are those related to materials and equipment |
The requests for financial assistance will be granted until exhaustion of the budget allocated to the RMC by the SHQ.
Eligible renovations
Eligible renovations must be integrated and installed into housing in a permanent way. Any changes must ease the difficulties that the elderly resident encounters in the performance of daily activities. For example, the adjustments can consist of: installation of a handrail for a staircase, rails close to the bath-tub, easier to access handles, etc
Eligible housing
The HRIS Program applies only to a house or rental housing used as a primary residence. In the case of rental housing, the owner will have to give written consent to the completion of the work and housing will have to be occupied by the tenant for at least 6 months.
